Les Miles will still be on the hot seat if he finishes 9-2, LSU board member says

Maybe they can go get Bo Pelini?

Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

We already knew that Les Miles was reportedly coaching for his job against No. 22 Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Now, it sounds as if winning the final two games of the season might not even be enough.

According to LSU Board of Supervisors member Ronald Anderson, in an interview with Ganett Louisiana, Miles’ job may still be in jeopardy, regardless of the outcome of LSU’s final two games of the regular season.

Anderson was quoted as saying, “I think if he wins the next two games, it’s still something that needs to be looked at. It’s the way they lost the two games.”

The two losses Anderson is referring to came at the hands of the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide and the unranked but dangerous-in-November Arkansas Razorbacks. Were they rough losses? Absolutely. But it’s hard to fault a team for losing to a Nick Saban Alabama team. And while Arkansas is a four-loss team, it’s having an inspired second half of the season, having also defeated Auburn in a 4OT thriller and Ole Miss before taking down the Tigers.

Anderson doesn’t seem to care much about those circumstances, however. Via Gannett:

If he wins them both, that complicates it. That’s my opinion. It’s not just the number of losses, but the quality of the losses. The next two games are really important to deciding the future of the program. And you’ve got to look at the progress of the program from the standpoint of a number of years.

True, the Tigers has seen their SEC record decline from year-to-year since 2011, but Miles has also led them to a .774 winning percentage over the past 11 seasons.

Perhaps those in charge at LSU should consult Nebraska before they give the boot to a coach who has consistently been a winner, let alone the financial implications of paying all that buyout money.
