Iowa State’s the 13th team to join the head coaching market. Will LSU be next?

Good morning! It’s your daily digest of college football stuff.

Ray Carlin-USA TODAY Sports

Another open job. Iowa State fired coach Paul Rhoads (pending ISU’s final game) on Sunday, meaning 13 FBS jobs have come open this year, with 12 of them still vacant. Rhoads was 3-8 at Iowa State this year, and he hasn’t brought the Cyclones to a bowl game since 2012, nor did he ever win more than six regular season games in his seven years in Ames. It was time for Rhoads to go, but Iowa State fans are still gonna miss him.

Iowa State candidates. Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash, Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost and Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo are all on Iowa State fans’ wish list.

Next coach gone? LSU is reportedly getting ready to fire coach Les Miles, and the Tigers' boosters want them to go after Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher. Where does LSU go next in this whole mess? And The Valley Shook searches for answers.

Alabama played Charleston Southern this week. Iowa didn’t, and the Hawkeyes stayed undefeated. Therefore, Spencer Hall has Iowa No. 2 and Bama No. 3.

Bowl projections. Michigan State beat Ohio State and takes the Buckeyes’ spot in the College Football Playoff.

Rankings. Iowa jumps Notre Dame to reach No. 3 in both the AP and Coaches polls.

This week’s big winners. Baylor and Michigan State helped themselves the most this weekend.

Podcastin’. The Solid Verbal recaps the best and worst of week 12.

What was that? TCU went for the win against Oklahoma with a two-point conversion. That decision was fine, but the play was awful.

Washington State’s quarterback is hurt, but don’t expect any updates at all. It’s a Mike Leach thing.

Head injuries. For the second straight week, teams had questionable responses to players with head injuries. The college football concussion problem isn’t going away.

Ducks huntin’. Oregon can’t change its awful September, but these Ducks are one of the best teams in college football right now.

The playoffs are here! Well, the FCS Playoffs. Here’s the full bracket.

Fighting Ibises. Miami’s mascot really wanted to join in on a fight with Georgia Tech.

Defensive perfection. Boston College defended a read option play better than anyone ever has or ever will.

Ohio State's struggles. The biggest reason for the Buckeyes' loss to Michigan State? They didn't even have opportunities to score. Ezekiel Elliott was right about Ohio State's offense, Land-Grant Holy Land says. Now OSU is an underdog to Michigan.

Speaking of Michigan, the Wolverines’ passing game is getting better by the week.

Winston’s big game. Jameis Winston set an NFL rookie record with five touchdown passes against the Eagles.

Officiating drama. The Northwestern-Wisconsin game ended with some controversial calls, but by the rulebook, those calls were probably correct.

Dykes dilemma. Cal lost another big game -- and another Big Game to Stanford -- and California Golden Blogs is questioning the direction of the program.

LSU still smells like corn dogs. And the Tigers lost. This billboard documents it all.
