The Eastern Michigan football program practices in an inflatable “bubble” indoor facility when it gets cold in Ypsilanti. And it frequently gets cold in Ypsilanti. Temperatures have hovered in the 30s for more than a week.
Eastern Michigan’s indoor practice facility collapses
Well, if that isn’t a metaphor for a 1-11 season, I don’t know what is.
If there are any practices left in the Eagles’ football season, they’re moving outside, because the Eastern Michigan indoor practice facility collapsed Sunday.

— Andrew Mascharka (@MascharkaPhoto) November 29, 2015 The cause of the collapse is not immediately known. As the photograph shows, there is no snow on campus at the moment to weigh down the roof of the dome, and there has been no precipitation in the last week. And while temperatures are chilly, Ypsilanti will be far colder in January and February.
If there’s one thing we know, it’s that this isn’t an issue of poor construction. Structures built by Eastern Michigan are impregnable.
