Ohhhhh boy, Nebraska. This was already going to be a down year for the Huskers, but the team didn’t look that bad. The previous five losses were all close, and Mike Riley’s first year looked like it would be defined more by bad luck than anything. And then Nebraska went and lost to Purdue, giving up 55 points in the process. This is the first season ever that the Huskers have lost six games before November, and Riley just got the dreaded “vote of confidence” from his athletic director. Oh, and Nebraska lost its best player, De’Mornay Pierson-El, for the season.
Michigan State vs. Nebraska 2015: Start time, live stream, TV schedule and 3 things to know
Can Nebraska finally win a big game?
Not great!
And things get even less great now that the Huskers have to beat two top 10 teams to even be bowl eligible. That starts this week against a Michigan State team that has been up and down throughout the year, but is still undefeated. The Spartans have a big win at Michigan and a somewhat impressive win against Oregon, but they also nearly lost to both Purdue and Rutgers. Can Nebraska figure out how to keep things close like those teams?
Of course, Nebraska needs to figure out itself first. The Huskers’ offense finally came alive late, but the Huskers are seemingly incapable of running ball. And the defense, which has struggled all year, just gave up 55 points to Purdue. Michigan State isn’t a great game to use to get back on track.

Three big things to know
1. How does Nebraska bounce back from that disastrous loss to Purdue? And will Huskers fans show up en masse when all that’s on the line is hoping to get bowl eligible?
2. Michigan State has big games against Ohio State and Penn State to end the season, so the Spartans can’t afford to overlook this trip to Nebraska.
3. Nebraska can’t run the ball and it can’t stop the pass. That’s a really bad combination against Michigan State.
