As surprising as it might have been a few months ago, Utah vs. Washington has turned into a very big game for both teams. Once a contender to be the No. 1 team in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, Utah and its impressive resume lost big at USC, and the Utes are going to need to win out to have any chance of making the Playoff. The secondary goal has to be winning the Pac-12 South, and Utah can’t afford to lose another game, which would drop the Utes out of control of the division.
How to watch Utah vs. Washington on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
Utah needs a win against dangerous Washington.
This week will present a significant test. Washington struggled under new coach Chris Petersen last year, and the start of this season was more of the same for the Huskies. However, they have come alive in recent weeks, even though they’ve been a bit inconsistent. They lost to Oregon and Stanford, but beat USC in Los Angeles, and most recently, dominated Arizona, 49-3, in Tucson. Is the offense finally showing some major improvements under freshman quarterback Jake Browning?
It’s impossible to expect Washington’s offense to play at the level it did against Arizona every week, but it’s clear that the Huskies are very dangerous when the offense is playing as well as the defense can. That’s something for Utah to worry about. The Utes need this game — just like they need every other one.

Three big things to know
1. Browning was outstanding against Arizona, though a lot of quarterbacks have been outstanding against Arizona. This will be a big game for him to show that he’s turning a corner.
2. Utah has to have this game to have any chance at the Playoff, and the Utes need to make sure they win to stay in the driver’s seat in the Pac-12 South.
3. Utah’s offense gets a good test against Washington. It needs more consistency than what it showed against USC.
