TCU vs. Oklahoma State final score, with 3 things to know from the Cowboys’ 49-29 win

The Cowboys’ undefeated dream stays alive another week, and TCU’s died on Saturday in Stillwater.

Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

No. 8 TCU's undefeated run came to an inglorious end on Saturday night in Stillwater, falling to No. 14 Oklahoma State 49-29. Mason Rudolph out-dueled Trevone Boykin for 60 minutes, throwing five touchdown passes and zero interceptions while stacking up 352 yards.

Things got out of control in a hurry for TCU. Mason Rudolph and the Oklahoma State passing game routinely ripped the top off the Horned Frog defense in the first half, allowing Rudolph to rack up four touchdowns in the first 30 minutes, three of which were longer than 48 yards. James Washington continued his hot streak, going over 100 yards in the first half and pulling in two touchdowns. He ended with 184 yards and three touchdowns on only five receptions.

The Cowboys kept pouring it on in the second half, making Boykin look average as they forced him into three turnovers and lots of uncharacteristic mistakes. He was without his favorite target Josh Doctson, who hurt his wrist late in the first half, but the Oklahoma State defense was swarming and consistently gave the Cowboy offense opportunities to stack up points when they had the ball. And the offense didn't miss.

Three things to know

1. Welcome to November in the Big 12. The backloaded Big 12 schedule got off to a raging start with this upset, and it’s not going to slow down anytime soon. Both of these teams still have to play Baylor and Oklahoma, who also have to play each other. This is going to be really fun.

2. Turnovers are important. TCU out-gained Oklahoma State by over 200 yards -- 663 to 456 -- but the four interceptions by Boykin absolutely killed them. Oklahoma State never shot themselves in the foot, and that’s a major reason why the scoreline ended the way it did.

3. How far can Oklahoma State take this? This was probably the first exposure to OSU for a large portion of the country. Even if it’s not, there’s still some question as to how much further the Cowboys can ride the undefeated train. They have to travel to Ames to play Iowa State, but then have Baylor and Oklahoma back to back at home afterwards. Don’t fall for the trap next week, Pokes. I hate to bring it up, but you’ve done it before.
