Washington State just drew one of the more curious penalties in the Pac-12 this year, and that's really saying something. Wide receiver Keith Harrington went into the end zone and kept walking until he got right in front of the stands, where Washington State fans were cheering and having a great time. Some fans reached down for high fives, and Harrington obliged, giving the fan some skin.
Washington State learns that high fiving a fan is unsportsmanlike conduct
Football might have too many rules.

This was deemed taunting by the referee, and it turns out he’s technically correct. Interacting with the fans can technically be enforced as an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, it just gets called so rarely that people don’t realize it.
Is this rule extremely lame? Yes. That doesn’t mean the call was wrong, though. Maybe this doesn’t need to be in the rulebook.
