It’s early November, and Florida has already clinched the SEC East under first-year coach Jim McElwain. That’s quite the turnaround from the Will Muschamp era, as Muschamp only won a total of 10 games in his last two seasons in Gainesville and never won an SEC East title.
Florida’s SEC East-winning foundation was set when Will Muschamp left, says Will Muschamp
Well sort of, but not really!

But Muschamp, now the defensive coordinator at Auburn, is still taking some credit for the Gators’ impressive season. From AL.com:
“No, I said it was a good locker room when I left and I meant it,” Muschamp said Sunday night. “The foundation was set.”
The SEC East is really bad this year, but to be fair, Muschamp has a point, and he did praise McElwain for improving the offense. Plus, Muschamp recruited very well in Gainesville, and he recruited almost all of the players Florida is winning with right now.
That said, it’s tough to imagine the Gators in this position with Muschamp, whose teams struggled mightily on offense. Florida currently ranks a respectable 46th nationally in the S&P+ ratings, despite losing quarterback Will Grier for the season. Last year, the offense ranked 72nd in S&P+.
