Houston athletic director: ‘I expect Tom Herman to be our coach’ in 2016

Good morning! This is the Read Option, your morning roundup of college football stuff.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Herman, the country’s hottest coaching prospect, could actually stay at Houston:

“Nothing is signed and nothing is final. We’re going to work this week to finalize the deal, and I expect we’ll have it done this weekend after the AAC Championship,” athletic director Hunter Yurachek told SB Nation’s Steven Godfrey. “I expect Tom to be our coach. Something dynamic would have to happen for that not to be the case.”

Slick. One coaching search is already over, and that's Virginia Tech's. The Hokies pulled the trigger and landed Justin Fuente faster than most anyone could've imagined. It was so quiet that Bud Foster, who's staying on as defensive coordinator, was only informed of Fuente's identity as the new coach when he was on the way to meet him.

We have our first bowl matchup! Western Michigan and Middle Tennessee State will jet off to Nassau for the Bahamas Bowl on Christmas Eve. This should be pretty fun!

Feel the excitement! Since there won’t be enough bowl eligible teams to fill all the bowl slots, the NCAA announced 5-7 teams will be allowed to go, and will be selected based on APR score. That means Nebraska and others are going bowling this year. Missouri would’ve been allowed to, but the Tigers declined to be considered.

Flip? Jacob Eason, the No. 2 quarterback recruit in the 2016 class and current Georgia commit, is taking an official visit at Florida this week. And boy, the Gators could surely use him. Maybe, like, this weekend.

Oh, good lord. Alligator Army chronicles the depths to which Florida’s offense sunk during the month of November. It was truly gruesome.

Big and beautiful. With the regular season (mostly) in the books, we have collected the 63 moments of excellence that are candidates for the Piesman Trophy. It’s been a long year, so go back through and enjoy some of the fun you forgot about.

Amazing. Navy’s helmets for the Army-Navy Game will include hand-painted warships, with each position group having its own ship. These rule.
