Tennessee beat Northwestern, so you get a free Bloomin’ Onion at Outback

Your rooting interests were probably determined by your eating interests.

Update:

The annual Outback Bowl giveaway is here! Once again, on Jan. 2, the day after the Outback Bowl, Outback Steakhouse will either be giving away free Bloomin’ Onions or Coconut Shrimp, depending on who wins the game. Here are your rooting interests this year:

  • Bloomin’ Onion: Tennessee
  • Coconut Shrimp: Northwestern

This is the fourth year of the giveaway, and every year, the SEC team — always the favorite — has been given the Bloomin’ Onion. Coconut Shrimp costs $1.30 more, and the Coconut Shrimp team has only won once since the contest began.

2013: South Carolina (Bloomin’ Onion) over Michigan

2014: LSU (Bloomin’ Onion) over Iowa

2015: Wisconsin (Coconut Shrimp) over Auburn

Here’s the full release from Outback:

All season long, it's been a battle of Coconut Shrimp Girl and Bloomin' Onion Man as the Big Ten and SEC have faced off on the road to the Outback Bowl. Now, they're packing their bags for Tampa, where the Tennessee Volunteers and Northwestern Wildcats will go head to head on Jan. 1.

There is more at steak than just the trophy - make sure to tune into ESPN2 on New Years Day at 12 pm/EST to see which team will win and which appetizer Outback Steakhouse will give away nationwide on Jan. 2.

If SEC's Volunteers take home the trophy, Outback will give away free Bloomin' Onions nationwide.

If Big Ten's Wildcats are victorious, it will be free Coconut Shrimp for all.

No matter what team you're rooting for, everyone is a winner at Outback. Just say "Outback Bowl" to your server on Jan. 2 to receive the free app.*

This year marks Outback's fourth-annual nationwide appetizer giveaway based on the outcome of the Outback Bowl.

*Valid with any purchase on 1-2-2016 only. While supplies last. Prices, product participation and restaurant hours may vary by location. Not valid with other discount, coupon or offer.
