Utah player to all of BYU at Las Vegas Bowl event: ‘You’re a dirty team’

Good morning! This is the Read Option, your daily roundup of college football stuff and leading source of Holy War dirt.

That’s Utah senior defensive tackle Seni Fauonuku at a Las Vegas Bowl event, telling BYU players “y’all a good team, but you’re a dirty team.” “Don’t start nothing, won’t be nothing,” he advised.

Fauonuku is referring to the Cougars’ knack for being caught on camera doing things like punching opponents in the delicates and last year’s bowl brawl with Memphis and track record of large penalty counts. (I’m not calling BYU dirty. All football teams are by definition dirty. The amount of dirt piled atop the required level can be difficult to gauge. But no one in Provo can deny this team has been proficient at raising unique awareness of its dirt.)

If you weren’t already excited about how ferocious this bowl is going to be (and many Utes fans weren’t), now you are. The numbers say to expect a gruesome trench battle, which might suit Fauonuku and friends just fine.

There’s also now a Star Wars trailer for this game, and it’s pretty good.

Texas A&M is transferring from Texas A&M. Days after former five-star QB Kyle Allen left, reports emerged of former five-star QB Kyler Murray maybe leaving. Hours before, we’d published a chart on how rapidly the A&M offense has declined anyway. Aggie players want everyone to calm down, but the mood in College Station is reflected by this story about Kyle Field itself transferring.

And then a four-star wide receiver decommitted from A&M.

Take some time to read this story of Brandon Sanders, the former Arizona safety who went from battling national champion Miami to a drug conviction to a career as a respected high school coach.

Ole Miss beat Bama again, this time for No. 1 offensive line recruit Greg Little. Another top-10 class for the Rebels?

Oregon State defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake is the new name to watch at BYU, now that Navy’s Ken Niumatalolo has said no.

Son of a former FSU safety picks Michigan over the Noles. That’s four-star Devin Bush, Jr., to be exact.

Can Ohio State keep the No. 1 recruiting class spot all the way through Signing Day?

That Missouri lawmaker’s bill that would’ve forced athletes to play was dumb and bad and would’ve actually made things worse for people who don’t want players to ever be paid, so maybe it was actually brilliant!

The ACC is trying the unorthodox tactic of hiring proven head coaches, and that should pay off in recruiting.

GODZILLATRON vs. MECHAGODZILLATRON. Auburn released some images of potential stadium upgrades, including another big ol’ video board.

Georgia’s hanging onto the No. 1 QB recruit despite firing his favored Mark Richt, but is there ever a situation when you’d keep a coach just to keep a recruit?

Kirk Ferentz continues to pile up coach awards. The season’s top story line at this point, IMO, is whether the surprise Rose Bowl-bound coach gets a raise on top of a contract that was already so huge, Iowa fans were complaining about it for years.

Year one expectations for Will Muschamp? Garnet And Black Attack just wants to go bowling again.

BOWL SEASON STARTS IN TWO DAYS. The Arizona-New Mexico kickoff game should be explosive frivolity. Perfect.
