Mark Dantonio and Mike D’Antoni are actually different people. Here’s how to tell them apart

It’s pretty simple, believe it or not.

Thursday, Sports Illustrated published a regional cover referring to Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio as “Mike Dantonio.”

Also Thursday, the Wall Street Journal referred to Dantonio as "Mark D'Antonio."

This all stems back to the confusion between Dantonio and former NBA coach Mike D'Antoni. It's a mistake many people have made many times. At some point, pretty much every publication has made the error, including ESPN.

Dantonio has been Michigan State's coach since 2007 and was head coach at Cincinnati for three years before that.

D’Antoni was first an NBA head coach in 1998 and was a head coach for two of the NBA’s most prominent teams, the Knicks and Lakers.

However, people still get their similar names mixed up. So it’s time for us to put an end to this, once and for all.

This is Mike D’Antoni.
