A potential second chance as an SEC head coach for Will Muschamp would come with a familiar look on defense and a “new attitude” towards offense, according to multiple sources.
Will Muschamp would bring a different offensive philosophy to South Carolina than at Florida
The Auburn defensive coordinator and former Florida head coach is connected to another SEC East job, and he’s open to different ideas.

Muschamp, currently the defensive coordinator at Auburn, has drawn interest from South Carolina and its athletics director, Ray Tanner. The Gamecocks are looking to replace Steve Spurrier, who resigned midseason.
Muschamp’s defensive staff would almost certainly include current Auburn defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson and linebackers coach Lance Thompson, with Robinson as defensive coordinator. Robinson worked on Muschamp’s Florida staff and is also a candidate to join the staff of newly hired Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin, himself a former member of the UF defensive staff.
Multiple sources have confirmed Muschamp is amenable to multiple offensive styles and potential offensive coordinators, and that he wouldn’t try to implement the “ball-control, pro-style look” he attempted as head coach of the Florida Gators from 2011-14.
Tiger Illustrated reported that Muschamp has contacted Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott about the potential OC role with the Gamecocks. The No. 1 Tigers rank 11th in Off. S&P+ one year after losing offensive coordinator Chad Morris to SMU.
During Muschamp’s 28-21 run at Florida, the Gators never finished worse than 13th in Def. S&P+ and only once better than 72nd in Off. S&P+.
Muschamp is also connected to Georgia as a potential defensive coordinator under new head coach Kirby Smart, a fellow former Nick Saban assistant.
