Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds, the all-time FBS career rushing touchdowns leader, has a game in Philadelphia on Dec. 12. It’s against Army. It’s a pretty big deal. He’s also a Heisman Trophy contender, and that ceremony is in New York City minutes after the game ends. If he’s a finalist (and things like this surely have ESPN hoping he is), a helicopter could be the solution:
Navy might helicopter its Heisman contender straight from the Army game into the trophy ceremony
Wake up, college football! Here’s what you might’ve missed.

“If we get him out of there by 7 o’clock and the game is over by 6:20 or 6:30, he should land in time,” Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said. “How dramatic would it be if he walks in even when the show is under way? He comes walking down with his Navy blues on. ‘Excuse me, fellas. Sorry I’m late,’ and he sits down.”
Elsewhere, is an online poll to select a Heisman winner being manipulated to keep Reynolds out? Not exactly.
Great Odom's raven! Missouri promoted defensive coordinator Barry Odom to the head coaching position vacated by the retiring Gary Pinkel. Odom had been rumored for the position at Memphis, but turned down the Tigers for a different set of Tigers. Mizzou's players went bonkers when they heard the news.
Walking to Memphis. With Odom off the board, Memphis hired Arizona State offensive coordinator Mike Norvell. The 34-year-old Norvell has worked on Todd Graham’s coaching staff since 2007 at Tulsa, Pitt and ASU.
The other coaching rumors from Thursday:
- Cal coach Sonny Dykes is putting his name in the hat for just about every open job, including Virginia and South Carolina.
- Also among the candidates at South Carolina: former Florida coach Will Muschamp, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley and current interim coach Shawn Elliott.
- Mike Locksley, who had been Maryland’s interim coach after Randy Edsall was fired, is unlikely to stay with the Terps under D.J. Durkin. The new head coach received a five-year, $12.5 million deal.
- Will Muschamp is reportedly just about gone from Auburn. Georgia DC? South Carolina HC? Other?
- Now-deposed Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt could land at Michigan to replace D.J. Durkin.
- Could an XFL video clip hold the key to the Virginia coaching search?
- Dan Mullen is still in Starkvegas after an interview in Miami, the Starkvegas of Florida. Mississippi State fans shouldn’t be offended by that.

Meet the old boss, same as the old boss. Everyone wanted to fire Kirk Ferentz last year. Iowa didn’t, and now it’s undefeated. Because sometimes it makes sense to not change anything.
PODCHAOS. With the actual Playoff bracket looking really boring, The Solid Verbal looks for any way to inject some chaos and controversy into Sunday's selections.
Right where they want them. Iowa’s defense could force Michigan State to throw it. Bill Connelly writes that Sparty should be doing that more anyway.
Did LSU really decide halfway through the Texas A&M game to keep Les Miles instead of firing him? YEP, says the school president.
U turn. Southern Miss finally returned to Conference USA contention this season. Could this be the first year in another period of mid-major dominance by the Golden Eagles?
