Mountain West Championship, Air Force vs. San Diego State 2015: Time, TV schedule, live stream and 3 things to know

Lots of offense and lots of rushing yards.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

There are some surprising conference championship game participants around the country — Michigan State, Iowa, Florida and North Carolina, to name a few — but perhaps no team is more surprising than Air Force. Before the season, it looked like Boise State would run away with the Mountain Division in the Mountain West, but Air Force beat the Broncos and stunned everyone by winning the division. That’s pretty impressive considering that this program was 2-10 two years ago.

The Falcons lost two more games than last season, but they came on strong at the end of the season, winning five of their last six. The option offense is strong, and Air Force has scored at least 35 points in every Mountain West game it’s played since the end of October.

On the other side is San Diego State, whose division title was never in doubt. The Aztecs struggled in non-conference season a bit, losing to Cal and Penn State, and somehow, South Alabama. However, they swept through the Mountain West schedule to finish 8-0. The West Division isn’t very strong this year, and SDSU was able to avoid playing both Air Force and Boise State. However, the Aztecs have improved as the season has gone on, and they have impressive blowout wins over Utah State and Nevada.

Three big things to know

1. This should be a shootout of a game, with two very good offenses that are very similar. Both are great running the ball and both hardly ever throw it. It might be a fast but points-filled game.

2. How good is San Diego State? It’s tough to go undefeated in a conference regardless of who you play, but SDSU hasn’t played the best teams in the Mountain West. This will be a good test.

3. Air Force is officially back. The Falcons have had two great seasons in a row. This is just gravy, but with a win, they have to be considered a power in the new Mountain West.
