It’s been a dream season for Grambling State just two years after Tigers players chose to strike and skip a game against Jackson State to protest the financial mess in the athletic department. But two years later, GSU is one game away from being the best team in the SWAC when it meets Alcorn State in the SWAC Championship Game at NRG Stadium in Houston.
How to watch Grambling State vs. Alcorn State on TV or online, plus 3 things to know about the SWAC Championship
The SWAC Championship will be a rematch of one of the conference’s best regular season games.

Grambling State lost its first two games of the season — at Cal and against Bethune-Cookman — but then won nine straight SWAC games in a row to win the SWAC West. The offense has been particularly impressive -- the Tigers have put up at least 34 points on every team they’ve faced, except for Cal, including 49 or more against five teams and 70 against Prairie View A&M. The dream regular season concluded last week with a win over Southern in the famed Bayou Classic at the Superdome.
Alcorn State won the SWAC East with an 8-3 record and its only losses to Georgia Tech, Grambling State and Prairie View A&M. Despite the losses to Grambling State, itself, and a Prairie View A&M team the Tigers blew out, the Braves have an impressive offense that’s capable of helping them beat anyone. They’ve scored at least 44 points on five occasions. It should be a shootout when these teams meet again.

Three big things to know
1. The winner of this game will play in the inaugural Celebration Bowl between the champions of the SWAC and the MEAC. That game will be operated by ESPN on Dec. 19 and should provide some good exposure for the conferences.
2. The last game between these two teams was a 35-34 thriller in favor of Grambling State on Alcorn State’s homecoming. Expect another close game.
3. Both of these teams specialize in offense. There will be no lack of points in Houston. Expect Big 12 football more than SEC football.
