Stanford crushes Iowa in 2016 Rose Bowl

The most memorable part of the 2016 Rose Bowl might have been Stanford’s marching band making Iowa fans furious with its halftime show performance, which poked fun at Iowa’s agricultural history. The script is here, and you can hear fans reach their boiling point when a giant cow is unveiled (the Hawkeyes were down by 35 points at the time, it’s worth mentioning):

That’s a bit of a tradition with the Stanford band, whose irreverent style made people mad at the Rose Bowl in 2014 and in 2013. Their antics this year were apparently so heinous that the Rose Bowl itself said it would “review polices.” College marching bands are serious business.

So we have:

1. Guard Josh Garnett getting fired up and shouting “WE WANT BAMA” a bunch of times, a proud tradition enjoyed by teams across the country, over and over again. Now, there’s no way for these two teams to actually play this season, but that’s never stopped anyone from doing some good, consequence-free jawing.

Iowa City, Iowa is 1,788 miles from Pasadena, Calif. But even a two-day drive wasn’t enough to stop fans of No. 5 Iowa from seeing their first Rose Bowl appearance since 1990.

While many fans flew to the West Coast, more than a dedicated few braved the 25-hour drive over the Rockies and into the Pacific time zone.

Neither Iowa nor Stanford made the College Football Playoff this year, but the Rose Bowl is the next best thing for both programs, and the polls would indicate that they’re the two best non-Playoff teams in the country, ranking fifth and sixth in the Playoff committee’s final rankings.
