Former Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis said it’s “highly doubtful” he’ll ever coach again in an interview with ND Insider published Thursday. The former NFL offensive coordinator was fired by the Irish after the 2009 season and by the Jayhawks four games into the 2014 campaign.
Charlie Weis ‘highly doubtful’ he’ll coach again
He’ll still make quite a bit of money from his old employers this year.

Weis was reportedly offered positions with NFL teams, but none fit his interest. The few that did ended up being filled by other candidates.
There’s no real reason for Weis to be in a rush to return to the field. He’s still making a truckload of money from Notre Dame and Kansas, and is scheduled to make around $4 million combined this year (around $2 million from each).
Notre Dame paid him an initial buyout payment of $6.6 million in 2009 and has paid him $2 million every year since, bringing his total buyout compensation from the school close to $19 million. This will be the last year Weis receives payment from Notre Dame. Kansas will be paying Weis a total of $5.625 million until 2017.
The head coach posted a 35-27 career record at Notre Dame, making three bowl games in five years. He was just 6-22 at Kansas, winning one conference game in 19 opportunities.
