URBAN MEYER GETS A RAISE. After leading Ohio State to a national championship, Urban Meyer got himself a nice raise and a contract extension that will pay him an average of $6.5 million per year through 2020. That’s a base pay that ranks second in college football, just behind Alabama coach Nick Saban, according to USA Today. Meyer was previously the sixth-highest paid.

Meyer could have potentially earned even more, given his accomplishments, but according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, he has “no desire to become the highest-paid college football coach in the country.” Of course, Meyer gets a lot of non-monetary perks.

ARMY REBRAND. Army now calls itself “Army West Point” with a new logo to salute its “soldier scholars,” along with new uniforms for all sports. The new logo is pretty slick.

#FREEUAB. A bill in the Alabama legislature is looking to give UAB and Alabama-Huntsville “a real, genuine presence” on the University of Alabama system Board of Trustees, which would give UAB two more representatives on a 21-member board. However, Bama’s alumni association president strongly opposes, calling it “detrimental” to the system.
The Tide have already been accused of bullying UAB and withholding resources that could have helped the Blazers keep their football program.
THE LAWRENCE PHILLIPS STORY GETS WORSE. Former star Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips is under investigation as a suspect for the murder of his cellmate at Kern Valley State Prison. Phillips is currently serving a 31-year sentence.
WHY WE WILL MISS LOU HOLTZ. On Sunday, we learned that Lou Holtz and ESPN agreed to mutually part ways. That’s sad, because Holtz provided us with a lot of fun memories. Here’s a look back at a few.
