Ole Miss player tweets about police shooting death of ‘my stepdad’ Walter Scott

“That cop didn’t have to shoot him down like a dog.”

A police officer in North Charleston, South Carolina will be charged with murder after the shooting death of an unarmed and fleeing man during a Saturday traffic stop.

Ole Miss junior defensive end Fadol Brown says the victim, 50-year-old Walter Scott, was his stepfather. Brown tweeted about the incident Wednesday night.

A Charleston native, Brown transferred to Ole Miss prior to the 2013 season after spending one year at Florida International.

A statement from head coach Hugh Freeze:

Walter Scott was in a relationship with the mother of Fadol’s longtime girlfriend and served as a father figure to Fadol for a number of years. Obviously this is a very emotional and difficult time for all parties involved, and our thoughts are with Fadol and his loved ones after this tragic event.
