Watch Tennessee’s coach lose his mind as someone plays ‘Sweet Home Alabama’

Good morning! It’s your daily roundup of college football stuff.

Not only did some poor soul near Tennessee’s practice field dare to play an anthem of the Vols’ most hated rival, UT decided to create an entire mini-documentary on head coach Butch Jones’ quest to have it shut down immediately. (Alabama fans enjoy all of this.)

Yikes. Missouri and Kansas haven't played since the Tigers left the Big 12 for the SEC, but that hasn't stopped one of the nation's oldest rivalries from continuing to simmer and create really regrettable combinations of words like these from a Kansas booster, calling Missouri a "slave state." 2015.

Let’s project! Bill Connelly’s 2015 season projections debuted, and despite winning the title last year and returning a wealth of talent, Ohio State is only No. 2. Your top team? Roll Tide.

Speaking of Alabama. Over at Roll Bama Roll, they get into possibly the team’s biggest weakness in 2014: the secondary.

And speaking of Bill! His preview series focused on Purdue, a team that’s really struggled to do much of anything for years now. Head coach Darrell Hazzell is entering year three in West Lafayette though, and maybe this could be the year things finally pop for Purdue.

In happier Tennessee video news ... Peyton Manning helped close down The Late Show with David Letterman.

The Spread! A while back at Football Study Hall, an attempt was made to gauge the effectiveness of spread offense by measuring how many solo tackles they generated, i.e. getting the ball to players out in space. With those numbers in mind, another test was run comparing those teams against their Offensive S&P+ rating. The result?

The association between spread offense (or really, generating solo tackles) and offensive efficiency is fairly low, as indicated by the mostly flat slope of the line of best fit. There are excellent offenses that produce a very high number of gang tackles like Arkansas and LSU, and that lead to a high number of solo tackles, like Baylor and UCLA.

This is fine. Maryland fans over at Testudo Times hit the film room to break down new quarterback commit Dwayne Haskins, and he looks like he could be a great one. That has to be music to the ears of Terp fans, who not so long ago saw a freshman linebacker taking snaps at quarterback in a game.

West Coast Crootin’!

McGrew, Beck and Morgan are all teammates at Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, and committed together at the same ceremony.
