High school sophomore trends nationally with one-handed backflip catch video

Did you go outside instead of keeping up with college football news during your three-day weekend? Get caught up here!

Best catch ever? Marco Wilson, a 2017 Florida cornerback recruit, has already claimed nine power-conference scholarship offers before doing the following:

His brother, Quincy, is currently a Florida Gator, but little bro’s name is now the more famous. The catch was all over social media on Friday, with national TV coverage continuing even through Tuesday. It’s safe to say he won the weekend.

HOT SEAT WATCH. We asked locals about 18 coaches, who could be considered on or near the hot seat this season. Miami’s Al Golden has a lot to prove, but look at where Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly ranks.

Houston’s recruiting rise. Houston got two blue chip defensive linemen commits before new coach Tom Herman has even started his first season. Keeping the five-star would make history, but even if he decommits, positive publicity is a big deal either way.

Football is weird. Our Northwestern blog claims the Wildcats had the country’s strangest season last year, beating Notre Dame, Penn State and Wisconsin, while losing to Cal, NIU, Iowa, Michigan and Illinois. Virginia Tech is also a contender, winning at Ohio State and Duke, but losing to Wake Forest. Or there’s Missouri losing to Indiana and still winning the SEC East. Who’s your pick?

Mora Golson drama. It turns out UCLA was never in the Everett Golson sweepstakes, and now we have a better idea of why. Jim Mora said on the radio that he didn’t want “mercenaries” on his team.

Tree hugger. We talked to an All-Big Ten Penn State defensive lineman who tackled a tree.

Wisconsin QB questions. After struggling at quarterback, Wisconsin looked like it had hope with record-setting freshman Austin Kafentzis. However, Kafentzis is leaving. What does that mean going forward?

QB crootin’. Louisville got a commitment from a four-star, while Colorado State got a commit. Meanwhile, Miami lost a quarterback commit.

Cool it on Kentucky. Kentucky looks to be headed in the right direction, but it’s still foolish to pick the Wildcats to beat a team like Florida.

A hot seat in Champaign? Tim Beckman has improved on the field every year, but with a slough of off-field issues, difficulties recruiting and no full seasons over .500, he needs a good season in order to keep his job.

Beware, BYU opponents. BYU just signed a massive rugby player from New Zealand. He likes to play chess ... and his nickname is “Die Hard.”

Kenny Dill? Former Texas A&M one-hit-wonder/freshman phenom quarterback Kenny Hill is transferring to TCU, meaning he can no longer be “Kenny Trill.” That’s okay, because we have a whole list of new possible nicknames.
