Texas A&M chancellor on Longhorns: ‘Great thing about playing us is you can get on real TV’

It’s been a few days since someone notable from the Texas A&M-Texas rivalry took a jab at the other side. A&M chancellor John Sharp is here to change that.

In an interview with the Texas Tribune, Sharp took some excellent jabs at the Longhorns after being asked about the possibility of the two teams rekindling their rivalry. The two have not played since A&M moved from the Big 12 to the SEC following the 2011 season.

Here’s the stinger quote, emphasis mine.

We asked them to play. I will say there is less enthusiasm among the Aggie network now than there was back then. We have new friends and we like playing LSU and we like playing these folks. We’re hopeful that sometime in the future there will be a bowl game that we’re able to play in, you know, if [Texas] gets there. But the great thing about playing us is that you can get on real TV if you play us.

The SEC has one of the biggest television deals in sports, while the Longhorn Network spent years trying to get carriage and is still in a relatively small number of homes.
