Heartwarming. Florida head coach Jim McElwain gave $5,000 to one of his former players at Colorado State whose life had taken a tragic turn.
New Florida coach donates to grieving former player
Good morning. This is your daily roundup of college football stuff.

Edwards lost his wife, Isa Edwards, June 6 after a battle with lupus. Since then, Eli and his daughter, Ellyse, have been stuck in New Zealand — where Isa was receiving treatment — unable to afford to fly back to the United States and hold a funeral for his late wife.
To help cover the costs, Edwards setup a GoFundMe account. [...] The largest donation was a $5,000 gift from MacFam LLC, operated by Florida football coach Jim McElwain and his wife Karen.
It’s a sad story, but it’s good to see so many of former lineman Eli Edwards’ friends and teammates come together. And McElwain’s not the first coach to help a former player, but it’s nice to be able to see it in action.
Hypothetically speaking. Bill Connelly takes a long look at the “what ifs” that would have followed Texas joining the Pac-12 in 2010. It gets weird.
Wahoowa. Virginia is the subject of Bill’s latest preview, and despite improvement, the seat underneath head coach Mike London continues to be warm.
History. Read up on the 1969 Liberty Bowl, when Colorado was the first racially integrated team to play against Alabama.
Stanford: pretty good at everything. For the 21st year in a row, the Cardinal win the Directors' Cup, which goes to the country's best all-around athletic department. This time, Stanford didn't need much help from its football team, which finished unranked for the first time since 2009.
That’s a problem. One of the biggest factors contributing to the SEC’s recent run of dominance is superior defensive line talent. Since 2011, SEC teams have signed 139 blue chip defensive line recruits, compared to only 40 in the Pac-12.
Now we’re talking. Starting this fall, you’ll be able to buy beer and wine at Texas home games.
This will be cool ... eventually. Georgia and UCLA are playing a home-and-home series! That’s great! What’s not so great? It’s not until 2025-2026.
Finally! Have you always dreamed of having a job that includes running Jim Harbaugh’s Twitter account? Well you’re in luck, friend.
What’s the problem then? Florida State has to replace a huge wealth of talent, but the good news for the Noles is that a number of their opponents have the same problem.

In defense of bandwagonery. Don’t be the longtime fan who looks down on newcomers.
