Lou Holtz’s home suffers severe fire damage, possibly struck by lightning

The former ESPN analyst and head coach was not injured in the incident.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries after a fire started at former ESPN analyst Lou Holtz’s Orlando home, via the Orlando Sentinel. Holtz and his wife both live at the home, but it appears neither were injured in the incident.

Fire officials and meteorologists are reportedly looking into lightning strikes as the cause for the fire at the 11,000-square-foot home.

The home has apparently been appraised at $1.6 million, and the extent of the damage has not yet been released. The Sentinel reports more than 60 firefighters responded at 2:42 a.m., with the fire “knocked down” by 3:21 a.m. and extinguished at 5:59 a.m., according to a fire department spokeswoman.

After many years as a college football analyst, Holtz and ESPN announced they would be mutually parting ways in April. We will miss him on Saturdays. Holtz won a national championship with Notre Dame in 1988 and also had stints coaching William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota and South Carolina.
