Can Tennessee win the SEC East a year after going 7-6?

Good morning! It’s your daily digest of yesterday’s college football stuff.

Somebody’s gotta win the SEC East. The West should be the dominant division in the SEC once again next year, with almost every team a legitimate contender for a New Year’s Six bowl.

In the East, it’s another rebuilding year. Among the quickest rebuilders is Tennessee, which finished a promising 7-6. But can a team then jump from 7-6 to playing in the SEC Championship? It’s been done three times in the last five years, Rocky Top Talk finds.

The Vols have talent and more on the way, but are still in the midst of building. Ditto for Kentucky. Florida and South Carolina have major projects, while Georgia and Mizzou look to be in solid shape. Vegas sets the Vols' over/under at 7.5 wins, but Bill Connelly's advanced stats project them as the second-best behind UGA in the East.

Tennessee’s beatdown of Iowa raised expectations, but did it raise them too high? This drunk Tennessee fan doesn’t seem to think so.

Blatter for NCAA. Sepp Blatter is no longer the president of FIFA, an organization that is pretty corrupt and terrible. If he’s looking for work while he awaits legal consequences, he should work for the NCAA.

QB crootin'. Auburn picked up a commitment from four-star quarterback Woody Barrett, beating out Alabama and others. That means 16 of the top 17 quarterbacks in the class of 2016 have now committed, so schools are running out of time to get an elite QB.

Other crootin’. Glen Logan joins LSU, adding another blue chip defensive lineman to what should be a top-10 class.

From UVA to UGA. QB Greyson Lambert’s leaving the Cavaliers for the Bulldogs, and Dawg Sports explains how he changes the picture. Also, let EDSBS test you on whether these 18 quarterbacks played for Georgia or Virginia, based on their country club-sounding names.

#FreedUAB. UAB football is back (sometime in the future). A UAB alum was at the press conference at which the school announced the return, and he provided his reflections.

Kentucky QBs. Kentucky has a returning starter at quarterback, but freshman Drew Barker, a former blue chip, is pushing incumbent Patrick Towles.

Former four-star QB back on the market. UCLA lost sophomore Asiantii Woulard, who announced that he will transfer.

The exclusive 160 club. Marcus Mariota had a passer rating over 160 for three years. How hard is that to do? Team Speed Kills breaks down the recent history.
