Established science dictates that recruiting is silly, so it’s no surprise that when an official-looking picture showed up that played up the bona fides of Michigan passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch at the expense of his approximate Ohio State counterpart, Zach Smith, Smith didn’t exactly take it lying down.
Yep, this infographic comparing Ohio State and Michigan coaches is still funny
Good morning! It’s your weekend roundup of college football stuff.

Check my Resume... And if it's confusing... Check my live resume next November. It will be the same resume as the last 3 Novembers.
— Zach Smith #Zone6 (@CoachZachSmith) June 7, 2015 The Buckeyes got a commitment from four-star wide receiver Austin Mack the next day -- presumably a player at which such materials would’ve been targeted -- so it seems like recruits haven’t been shaken quite yet.
Several years ago, quarterback tricks were all the craze. Alex Tanney, Johnny McEntee and even Johnny Manziel got into the act. But that was then, and crazy kicker tricks are now.
- Texas kicker Nick Rose puts a ball through the uprights while DOING A BACKFLIP. COME ON.
- Arkansas State’s Nick Ferguson held this field goal attempt not with his hand like a normal person would, but with his tongue. Gross, Nick.
- This high school kicker that just committed to Florida State can nail field goals from 75 yards out. Doesn’t seem fair, if you ask me.
Next we need to see a kicker backheel a ball between the uprights. I’m not sure it’s physically possible, but we need it.
It’s in the past. Michigan State has long had a reputation of a team that can find a way to blow it at the last possible moment. But as Bill C. shows in his preview of the Spartans, that reputation is no longer deserved.
“Sparty, No!” is dead. Seven years of sadness have been swallowed up by eight years of growth. Sure, there have still been disappointments, but from a quality standpoint, the job Dantonio has done has been stunning. He inherited a team that had ranked 75th in the F/+ rankings in 2006 and engineered the following run: 26th, 32nd, 31st, 31st, 14th, 20th, 12th, 11th.
Well, actually. Texas and the Longhorn Network is in good shape, and they’re going to continue making lots of money for a while.
Elsewhere in crootin’:
- Four-star running back Chris Evans committed to Michigan.
- Four-star defensive end Josh King committed to Michigan State.
- Four-star quarterback Jalen Hurts and four-star JUCO OT Charles Baldwin committed to Alabama.
- Texas A&M got the commitment of four-star linebacker Tyrel Dodson.
- Texas Tech got into the action, as well, landing four-star wide receiver T.J. Vasher.
Awfully nice of him. Middle Tennessee State head coach Rick Stockstill was due to start getting a $100,000 pay raise each year for the next four years, but is giving it back to the school to help fund NCAA-regulated scholarship boosts for the team. School’s in MTSU’s situation normally don’t have a lot of wiggle room in their budgets, so this is a huge boost to their ability to be competitive.
31! Kenny Chesney’s list of favorite teams grew this weekend, all the way up now to 31 with the addition of Northwestern, a team he’s surely loved his whole life.
