Ken Stabler remembered as ‘a hell-raiser, a good man’

Good morning. Here is your daily roundup of college football news.

RIP, “Snake.” NFL and Alabama great Kenny Stabler passed away on Thursday at the age of 69. He led Alabama to an 11-0 season in 1966, was a four-time NFL Pro Bowler, and was known for off-the-field incidents ranging from boating escapades to charity work.

Roll Bama Roll honors the QB as “a consummate gentlemen, a hell-raiser, a humble country boy from Foley, a ferocious competitor, a good man.” Among the NFL figures remembering him is former coach John Madden, who says, “I’ve often said, if I had one drive to win a game, to this day, and I had a quarterback to pick, I would pick Kenny.”

The NFL Network's showing his best games Friday night. Check Roll Bama Roll and Silver And Black Pride for more.

Confirmed. Braxton Miller is staying at Ohio State this year and will not be transferring to Alabama, Florida State, Oregon or anywhere else.

Not quite confirmed. Vernon Adams was expected by many to come in and take the starting quarterback job at Oregon after dazzling for years at Eastern Washington. He wasn’t announced as a spring graduate at EWU, but as long as he completes a class this summer, he should be in good shape.

Baylor is the reason. Lots of ink has been spilled about the decline of the Big 12, especially in light of its snub from the College Football Playoff last year. "If Baylor and TCU had been Texas and Oklahoma, they wouldn't have been shut out." There have been internal factors that have brought the Sooners and Longhorns down a peg, but make no mistake, the rise of Baylor has also done a lot to do them in.

Hype. We talked with five-star Ole Miss quarterback commit Shea Patterson, the school's most-renowned QB recruit since Eli Manning.

Speaking of Baylor. In case they didn’t have enough ways to score, their kicker can nail 70-yard field goals.

Fashion news now. UCLA got a new set of home uniforms from Adidas, and Bruins fans are decidedly not into them.

Elsewhere, Texas will continue to roll with the metallic Longhorn decal on their helmet.

Crootin’!

That’s a relief. There had been some trepidation among Wisconsin fans that four-star running back Jordan Stevenson might not make it to Madison after he wasn’t listed among summer enrollee s. Everything appears to be fine, as he’s set to enroll for the fall and is already listed on the 2015 roster. Because Wisconsin really needs another talented running back.
