Troubles in Tallahassee. Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook faces a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly punching a woman in the face. Cook was suspended indefinitely, just a few days after quarterback De’Andre Johnson was dismissed after video emerged of a similar incident.

In the summer of 2014, Cook was cited for having chained-up dogs and charged with criminal mischief for a BB gun battle, also being listed by police as “an associate” in an aggravated assault case.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher released a statement about both players’ incidents, saying, “We will do better. I will not tolerate anything less.” Fisher has reportedly made some changes, including banning his players from bars.
Too hyped? TCU is a popular pick to make the College Football Playoff, since the Horned Frogs return most of their players from an extremely successful team. However, Bill Connelly says the TCU bandwagon might be too crowded.
Crootin’. The Opening, Nike’s premier high school football event, was held this week in Beaverton, Oregon, so it was a big week for recruiting. A few highlights, with more coverage from the scene to come (follow Bud Elliott for more):
- Ole Miss commit Shea Patterson won the Elite 11 MVP as the best quarterback in the competition.
- Four-star wide receiver Trevor Sidney committed to USC. The Trojans are back to being the premier recruiter on the West Coast, and they’ll challenge to have the best class in the country for 2016.
- Utah got a commitment from a Florida running back.
- Top safety recruit Craig Watts decommitted from Wisconsin.
