Satellite camps won’t help Big Ten swipe SEC recruits, says Auburn’s Malzahn

Good morning! It’s your daily dose of yesterday’s college football news.

Kelly Lambert-USA TODAY Sports

Summer camp smack. SEC coaches have been furious all offseason about the Big Ten’s satellite recruiting camps in the South. Auburn coach Guz Malzahn commented again at SEC Media Days, and his message was a bit different: Satellite camps don’t matter because they don’t work.

I think that whole thing kind of got blown out of proportion, to be honest with you. The chances of a team up North coming into our state and [getting] a player that us or Alabama wants are slim to none. So it was just a matter of that was the big story.

So far, it appears Malzahn is right — Michigan’s lone commit from its Alabama camp did not have an Auburn or Bama offer — but if these camps ever do send top recruits to Northern programs, you can bet this quote will come up.

More from day one of SEC Media Days:

Lakegating? Texas A&M’s stadium renovations are nearly complete, but there’s one addition that will wait until next year: a lake for tailgating. After years of speculation, the project appears to be happening.

Crootin’. Five-star offensive tackle Greg Little likely won’t be enjoying free time by that lake. He reportedly decommitted from the Aggies.

Buffs on the rise? Colorado was not good last year, but the Buffaloes were also extremely unlucky. The Buffs are improving; trust Bill Connelly on that one.

Cincinnati’s Top Dogg(s). Snoop Dogg and Urban Meyer were both in Cincinnati for MLB All-Star festivities and were teammates in the celebrity all-star game. Naturally, they’re best buds.

FSU injury leak? Florida State tweeted a picture of university president John Thrasher talking to players about recent off-field incidents. In the picture, it appears freshman quarterback Deondre Francois is wearing a cast.

Speaking of those incidents, running back Dalvin Cook, who was accused of punching a woman, plans to clear his name, says his attorney.
