Dubious. Conference realignment has been back in the news over the past few weeks, for better or worse, centered mostly around potential Big 12 expansion. The conference nearly didn’t make it out of the last round of realignment alive, and potential instability has some questioning whether Oklahoma might consider bolting for the SEC. Is this going to happen anytime soon?
The Big 12’s TV deal makes the league safer than you might think
Good morning! It’s your daily roundup of college football stuff.
As part of the Big 12’s television contract, schools granted their media rights to the conference, with the rationale being that schools would not leave the conference, as their media rights (see: loads and loads of money) would stay behind. Unless everyone involved is just itching for a monster lawsuit, it’s tough to see anyone bailing on the Big 12 anytime soon.
New “friends.” Readers at Missouri blog Rock M Nation were polled on which of the Tigers’ new conference foes was their biggest rival, and Georgia came out on top.
Another addition. USF got its second transfer in a week, welcoming former NC State wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling. He’ll be eligible to play in 2016.
A new home for the crown? Alabama has pulled in the country’s top recruiting class for five years running. They’re putting together another great class for 2016, but several teams have a chance to grab the top spot ahead of the Tide.
Speaking of ‘crootin:
- 2017 four-star offensive lineman Jake Moretti committed to Ohio State.
- Four-star offensive lineman Jake Heinrich committed to Arkansas.
- USC landed a former UCLA commit in four-star athlete Michael Pittman.
- Michigan gets a badly needed wide receiver in four-star Brad Hawkins.
- Three-star linebacker Kash Daniel committed to Kentucky over Louisville and South Carolina.
- Chris Petersen and his staff at Washington are starting to pick up some steam on the recruiting trail.
