Florida State star found not guilty of misdemeanor battery

Good morning! It’s your daily digest of yesterday’s college football stuff.

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Star Florida State running back Dalvin Cook was found not guilty of misdemeanor assault after a day-long trial on Monday. A Tallahassee woman had alleged that Cook punched her in the face outside of a bar.

Cook was arrested in July and suspended indefinitely, pending the result, and now he will be eligible to rejoin the team. Cook rushed for over 1,000 yards last season and is expected to be the one of the best running backs in the country.

USC goes dry? USC has reportedly banned alcohol from its locker room, because apparently it wasn't banned before! In *totally unrelated* matters: Analyzing a $600 bar tab from a Steve Sarkisian night out that featured 45 shots of Patron.

QB decisions. With 12 days until the start of the season, two prominent teams chose Monday to announce their starting quarterbacks for the upcoming season.

ASU head coach’s son resigns. Todd Graham’s son, Bo, the Arizona State running backs coach, abruptly resigned due to “personal reasons.”

Iowa Hawkings? Black Heart Gold Pants explains Iowa via advanced physics. Is quarterback CJ Beathard the Hawkeyes’ Theory of Everything?

On the rise. Missouri has had a great run of star defensive linemen, and Charles Harris will be next in line.

Job opening. With Cameron Echols-Luper leaving TCU to become a quarterback at Arkansas State, who will take over punt return duties for the No. 3 Horned Frogs?

Uh oh. SB Nation’s Syracuse site explains why 3-9 is a distinct possibility for the Orange.

Deep threats. According to the advanced stats, the Pac-12 has some serious breakout candidates at wide receiver, including at UCLA’s Thomas Duarte and Arizona’s Samajie Grant.

Recruiting woes. Charlie Strong refused to release current Oklahoma Sooner Du’Vonta Lampkin, explaining Monday that it would set a bad precedent.

Kentucky kind of loses four players. Two backups are leaving, and two transfers were ruled ineligible to play this year.

Irish hopes. With camp coming to an end shortly, can Notre Dame show that it is ready to live up to the hype?

Taser stunt. A D-III school tased its assistant coach in hopes of boosting morale, or something like that.

One thought on Baylor: let’s all slow down, says Bring on the Cats.
