Boise State says it didn’t boot Sam Ukwuachu because of violence against women

Good morning. Here’s your daily roundup of college football stuff.

Baylor scandal update. We still don't know exactly what Art Briles knew about Sam Ukwuachu before he transferred to Baylor, where he was eventually convicted for sexually assaulting a student. But Tuesday, Boise State stated it never received reports about a sexual assault involving Ukwuachu and that his BSU dismissal had nothing to do with any previously alleged violence against women.

An ESPN review of records found Ukwuachu had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder days before being dismissed from Boise. On Friday, Briles claimed Boise told him Ukwuachur needed to go home to Texas because he was feeling depressed and homesick.

Hours earlier, two Sports Illustrated reporters said Florida found out about Ukwuachu’s violent history and declined to take him. It’s worth noting one of those SI reporters has botched a major Big 12 story before.

The biggest, baddest preview in the world. SB Nation’s 2015 college football preview dropped yesterday, and it’s packed to the brim with the knowledge you need ahead of the coming season. You would be well advised to dig in and look around for yourself, but make sure you check out:

Alabama as Nick Saban’s last great rebuilding job. Yes, rebuilding.

There are also previews for every single FBS conference -- not just the major conferences -- and a long list of the most important and relevant stories from the offseason. We’re almost at the start of a new season, so make sure you’re ready.

Up downs? Steve Sarkisian apologized to USC players for his drunken outburst at a donor event, and after telling the team to give him a fair punishment, he was forced to do up downs. This whole thing is pretty odd.

BRILLIANT. According to a new book, fired Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon once proposed NOT PLAYING OHIO STATE EVERY YEAR.

In case it’s not clear why that’s crazy, people care so much about Michigan-Ohio State that a 10-year-old Buckeye is worried a heart transplant in Michigan will make him a Wolverines fan.

Trouble in Jersey? Kyle Flood could be in hot water for communicating with professors about a player’s academic progress. As scandals go, this is a 1/10, considering I didn’t know this was against the rules.

#UAB FREED. UAB held its first team meeting Tuesday since the program was reestablished.

Even more QB news! South Carolina’s new starter is Connor Mitch, and Purdue is rolling with Austin Appleby.

Big 12 proposes an SEC-style rule preventing schools from adding players who were dismissed from elsewhere for violence against women.
