How to watch Oregon vs. Michigan State on TV or online, plus 3 things to know

It’s the biggest matchup of the season so far.

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

The Pac-12 and Big Ten have both seen better days. The Pac-12 had the worst week one of any major conference, while in the Big Ten, Nebraska lost to BYU, Penn State lost to Temple, Minnesota lost to TCU, Wisconsin lost to Alabama, Purdue lost to Marshall and Michigan lost to Utah.

Neither Oregon nor Michigan State had particularly impressive wins against Eastern Washington or Western Michigan, but they survived and will meet in the game of the week — a game that will have College Football Playoff implications. Oregon won this game in Eugene last year after Michigan State jumped out to a hot start, but both teams have more to show this season if they are to make the Playoff. MSU needs help on special teams, particularly against a team with as many playmakers as Oregon, while Oregon needs to make dramatic leaps on defense after giving up 42 points to FCS Eastern Washington.

Regardless of who wins, this should be a fun one. Michigan State is old-school, but it has proven it can beat revolutionary offenses after taking down Baylor last year. And this will be the best defense Oregon graduate transfer quarterback Vernon Adams has ever faced. There are a lot of unknowns, but that’s what will make this game so fun.

How to watch, stream and listen

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ABC

Radio: Oregon, Michigan State

Online streaming: None

Three big things to know

1. This is the big test for Vernon Adams. Yes, he can run up the score on his old Eastern Washington team, but can he do it against one of the best defenses in the country?

2. This is our first matchup of top 10 teams this season. That alone makes it worth watching.

3. Michigan State is now an elite program, but it needs to win games like this to get to the Playoff. The Spartans will be sitting pretty if they can pull this one out.
