Blocking a punt is hard. It’s almost impossible to get to the punter in time to get a hand on the ball, and even if you do, you have to be careful to not touch the punter or it’ll be a penalty. Penn State’s Troy Apke was oh so close to blocking this Buffalo punt, but it seems like he decided to, well, just not do it.
Penn State somehow failed to block this punt
How do you miss from this close? How?

Let’s get another angle.
The more times I watch this, the more confused I get. I simply don’t understand how you can be that close to the punter, have your hands out, and just not block the punt. I’m more impressed than anything, really.
The punt ended up going 45 yards, so this was a significant change in field position. Considering the Nittany Lions’ offensive woes, any big swing in field position like that is a huge setback.
