Florida coach got an ‘earful’ from his 94-year-old mother for viral sideline tirade

After scoring against ECU, Florida running back Kelvin Taylor did a throat slash gesture, got penalized, and subsequently got screamed at on the sidelines by coach Jim McElwain to an uncomfortable degree.

On Monday, McElwain said he regretted how he treated Taylor, and he’s heard the criticism, including from his 94-year-old mother.

Taylor’s father, former running back Fred Taylor, initially wasn’t too bothered by the exchange:

However, after his son was demoted on the depth chart, the elder Taylor lashed out, according to the AP’s Mark Long.

“I don’t understand the thought behind it. If (McElwain’s) going to be consistent and this is what happens, then I get it. That’s fine. Being a starter is not the end of the world, but what point are you trying to make? Are you trying to show the media that you’re going to be a no-nonsense guy? Or are you trying to get the players’ attention? I thought you did that already.”
