Is it possible to be encouraged after a devastating lost? Texas is about to find out. The Longhorns staged a comeback against Cal but missed an extra point to tie the game. That’s heartbreaking, and it dropped Texas to 1-2 on the season, but there were positives, including the fact that new quarterback Jerrod Heard looks like the real deal. Quarterback had been an issue for the Longhorns, but if Heard continues to play like he did against Cal, Texas might be able to turn things around.
How to watch Oklahoma State vs. Texas on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
Texas is a home underdog once again.
However, there’s a reason the Longhorns are home underdogs for the second straight week. Oklahoma State hasn’t gotten a lot of talk this season, despite being ranked, but the Cowboys are 3-0 and quarterback Mason Rudolph continues to look good. No, OSU hasn’t played anybody, and the best team the Cowboys played — Central Michigan — was able to keep up in a 24-13 loss.
This version of Oklahoma State has a defense, and it might be better than most people expect this year, but we don’t know a ton about the Cowboys. Nor do we know much about the Longhorns under Heard. We’ll find out a lot about both teams this week.

Three big things to know
1. What is Jarrod Heard going to do in his second start? He was tremendous against Cal, but Cal isn’t known for its defense. Oklahoma State will provide a bit more of a test in that regard, and we’ll see whether Heard is as polished as he looked against the Bears.
2. What can OSU against someone with a pulse? The Cowboys have the weakest non-conference schedule of any College Football Playoff contender, and so far, they’ve played Central Michigan, Central Arkansas and UTSA. That’s brutal. This will be their first test against a team in their league.
3. Can Texas get through a game without drama? That’s been hard to come by so far this season. A win would help.
