Vegas stumped. The two biggest games of the upcoming week -- Alabama at Georgia and Notre Dame at Clemson -- look like toss-ups in the eyes of Vegas, as both opened as pick-‘ems, according to OddsShark’s tracker. However, the home teams became 2.5-point favorites shortly after the lines opened. If Alabama remains the underdog, it will be the first time the Crimson Tide enter a game as an underdog since the 2009 SEC Championship Game, a 72-game streak.
Alabama’s an underdog, and Michigan’s ranked. What a world!
Good morning! It’s your morning roundup of college football stuff!
RANKINGS TIME! Michigan went from no votes to No. 22 in the AP Poll, breaking a 27-poll unranked drought. Also in the rankings roundup, Auburn still got eight votes in the Coaches Poll (?) and West Virginia is third in S&P+ (!).
Escaping Lubbock. TCU gets the top spot in Spencer Hall's Top Whatever rankings, because even though the Horned Frogs struggled with Texas Tech, escaping Lubbock with a win is still escaping Lubbock with a win.
Bowl projections. UCLA in the Playoff field as No. 3 to play No. 2 Ohio State? Ole Miss is No. 1, facing No. 4 Baylor? Full picks here.
ECU-Virginia Tech. Is this series a rivalry? After two straight upsets, it still might not be, but we went to Greenville to learn more anyway.
Fuente en fuego. Justin Fuente’s Memphis Tigers have won 11 games in a row. Looking for the next great Group of Five team? Why not Memphis?
Questionable calls. The Texas defense made some strides, but the officiating doomed the Longhorns against Oklahoma State, according to Burnt Orange Nation. (Our Texas A&M blog digs deep into the terrible anti-Texas conspiracy.)
Bad decisions. Butch Jones can recruit, but after two terrible blown leads against Oklahoma and Florida, Vols fans are questioning Jones’ chops as an in-game coach.
Hung over. Ole Miss looked bad against Vanderbilt, but that’s okay. Everyone’s hung over sometimes.
Kentucky comeback. Following good recruiting success under Mark Stoops, Kentucky is 2-1 in SEC play for the first time since 2007. Is this the breakout year for the Wildcats?
7 meets 44. Leonard Fournette ran all over Syracuse, but the highlight of his night was meeting one of this idols, former Syracuse running back Floyd Little.
More than meets the eye. Texas A&M’s offense didn’t look particularly dominant against Arkansas, but the advanced stats show that there was a lot to be happy about for Aggies fans.
There so he won’t get fined. Marshawn Lynch attended Cal-Washington and gave the Bears a pep talk.
Finally going dancing. Northwestern’s players put together a choreographed dance before playing Ball State.
Stoops dance-off. Crimson & Cream Machine has a podcast with Bob Stoops, in which they find out what it will take to get a Bob Stoops-Baker Mayfield dance-off.
