Texas would be a needed ‘cupcake game’ for Texas A&M, says regent

Good idea tbh.

Texas and Texas A&M are bitter rivals that do not like each other, and in a clashing of egos, they have not yet scheduled each other since A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012. However, according to the Austin American-Statesman, Texas A&M regent Tony Buzbee posted on Facebook that he wants the teams to play again, because he wants a “cupcake” on the Aggies’ non-conference schedule.

Here’s a transcription of the Facebook post, from the Statesman:

“I have not spoken to the other Aggie Regents about this, yet; I haven’t spoken to the Athletic Director, nor have I spoken to Coach Sumlin about it either. Understand, I’m only ONE of nine votes on the Board of Regents, and the Regents typically do not involve themselves in football schedules. That being said, I am going to advocate that the Aggies play Texas again in the near future. Because of our brutal SEC West schedule, where we play the likes of Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, etc., the Aggies need some cupcake games to rest and heal. In my view, Texas is just as weak if not weaker than the non-conference games we play, so we may as well play them.”

Woo boy! That’s some fun trash talk. Check out our tracker for more talk about the rivalry/non-rivalry.
