TCU, Utah, South Carolina biggest winners on college football’s opening night
Good morning! It’s your wakeup roundup of college football stuff.

Michigan lost their first game under Jim Harbaugh, 24-17 to Utah. Jake Rudock was a mess, throwing three picks, including a game-clinching pick six. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if Harbaugh were to try to play himself at quarterback. Then Utah ate cupcakes.
No. 2 TCU looked rusty, but managed to escape Minneapolis with a 23-17 win. Neither offense could establish much of a rhythm, but the Horned Frogs are 1-0.
South Carolina and North Carolina also looked rusty (beginning to detect a trend?), but the Gamecocks pulled out the 17-13 win. North Carolina was close, but were undone by two identical red zone interceptions to the same guy.
Colorado lost to Hawaii, 28-20, in maybe the cruelest, dumbest way possible; while hurrying up to the line, the Buffaloes had to watch an official lose control of the ball as the clock ran out. And then the game ended.
Western Kentucky beat Vanderbilt 14-12 in Nashville. The entire affair was extremely sad, unless you’re a WKU fan.

Oh no. Arizona star Scooby Wright III left the Wildcats’ season opener with a left knee injury, and his status going forward is still uncertain. Hopefully he won’t be missing significant time.
Uh-oh. Defensive starters Shawn Oakman and Orion Stewart are suspended for Baylor’s season opener against SMU. The Bears likely won’t need them to beat SMU, but this is obviously not good news.
Things are going badly in New Jersey. Five Rutgers players were suspended on Thursday after being charged with assault. One of the players, Nadir Barnwell, is the player at the center of a school investigation into head coach Kyle Flood's contact with faculty.
Weathering. Toledo had a 16-7 lead on Stony Brook right after halftime, but the game was suspended after undergoing too many weather delays.
Maybe he’s not so different. Jim Harbaugh, like you and I, also really enjoys saying “Jake Butt”.
