This should be one of the most mysterious games of the opening weekend.
How to watch BYU vs. Nebraska on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
Who will play and what will the stars on both sides look like?
Nebraska is entering the Mike Riley era in what it hopes will be the (sort of) polar opposite of the Bo Pelini era. The Huskers have had a complicated relationship with their most recent coaches, but in short, they’re looking for fewer sideline temper tantrums and a few more wins. Riley takes over an impressive team, but after underachieving at Oregon State since the turn of the decade, he’ll have to win immediately with a system that’s different than what the Huskers are used to.
Meanwhile, like Nebraska, BYU had a disappointing finish to 2014. The Cougars lost star quarterback Taysom Hill to injury, but now Hill is back to try to help his team overcome a brutal schedule.
But we don’t know as much about this game as we should. BYU has an undisclosed number of suspensions from a brawl in last year’s Miami Beach Bowl, while Nebraska will have five suspended players of its own. We’re certain to see some surprises on game day.
How to watch, stream and listen
TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Online streaming: WatchESPN
Three big things to know
1. Taysom Hill is back
BYU gets electric quarterback Hill back, and that means Nebraska will have its hands full in Mike Riley’s debut. Can he launch a dark horse Heisman campaign with a big game?
2. What will the Mike Riley offense look like?
Riley has a lot of talent, but will he be able to adapt this pro-style system with Nebraska’s spread personnel? We’ll get our first look at the Mike Riley offense at Nebraska in Provo.
3. Who’s going to play?
With at least half a dozen players suspended, predicting what’ll happen in individual matchups is going to be tough. That should make for a fun game.
