With Florida State (possibly) falling back to earth and room for another team to make a run for the ACC title, this year appears to be No. 12 Clemson’s shot. Deshaun Watson is healthy, the defense creates more havoc than anyone in the country and the Tigers get Florida State at home. This is Clemson’s year. Now we’ll see how they start it off.
How to watch Wofford vs. Clemson on TV or online, plus 3 things to know
Clemson begins its ACC title run.
The opener against Wofford shouldn’t be particularly difficult for Clemson to get on the right track, but things get progressively harder after the first week. The Tigers have a potential trap game against Appalachian State in week two, then a big matchup at Louisville. After a bye week, Clemson plays Notre Dame and Georgia Tech in consecutive weeks.
If there are any kinks, they better get ironed out against the Terriers.
How to watch, stream and listen
TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, ACC Network
Online streaming: WatchESPN
Three big things to know
1. We get to see healthy Deshaun Watson
We haven’t seen a fully healthy Deshaun Watson since early October of last year. Chances are he’ll get some chances to impress against an FCS defense.
2. HAVOC
Last year, nearly a quarter of Clemson’s defensive plays created “havoc” for opposing offenses, meaning they ended in a tackle for loss (including sacks), forced fumble or tipped/intercepted pass. That’s the best kind of defense to watch, and we’ll likely see a lot of havoc against the Terriers.
3. Wofford sort of gave Georgia Tech a game last year
Okay, not really, but it also wasn’t 60-0. Wofford put up 19 on the Yellow Jackets, falling 38-19. So if the Terriers play their best game, maybe they have a chance.
