The wide receiver hurt his neck running into the goalpost.

The first scary injury of the college football season has unfortunately arrived. Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams collided with the goalpost while catching a touchdown pass, and he was stretchered off the field after several minutes.

He was able to raise his hand, so that’s a positive, but it’s unclear at this point just how bad his injury is. It looked like his shoulder was the main point of contact with the post, but the word from the team is that it’s a neck injury and that he’s been taken to the hospital. On one hand, thank goodness the pad is on the post, but maybe he doesn’t make contact with anything if it’s not there.

Williams caught 57 passes for the Tigers last year, going for 1030 yards and six touchdowns. He led the team in receiving yards and figured to be a big part of the offense yet again. If he’s lost for any length of time, it’s a huge loss for Clemson.

Clemson leads Wofford 7-0 on Williams’ touchdown catch.
