Kansas State band punished for ‘spaceship’ performance ... but not for the ‘spaceship’ part

This is about sportsmanship, not the “spaceship,” or something.

Kansas State has announced “internal sanctions” for its marching band’s halftime show this week, which looked like it contained a NSFW Jayhawk. The band claims that it was a spaceship going into a Jayhawk’s mouth. Regardless, the university is punishing the band.

Among the sanctions are a one-game suspension for the band director and a $5,000 fine. It appears the school is more angry about the Jayhawk reference than the “spaceship” part.

Whatever the formation was, a former Kansas State band member says the uproar is unnecessary.
