Former A&M QB Kyle Allen transferring to Houston, continuing UH’s ridiculous year

It’s pretty great to be the Cougars right now.

Crystal LoGiudice-USA TODAY Sports

Former five-star recruit and Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen plans to transfer to Houston. The Aggie starter told Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman that the team’s 38-24 Peach Bowl win was the “icing on the cake” in choosing the Cougars despite interest from Colorado, Colorado State, and Syracuse.

I just have a lot of trust in Coach [Tom] Herman. He had recruited me in high school [when Herman was at Ohio State]. I had gotten to know him extremely well. I know he can really help me grow as a man and get to the NFL.

Allen played two seasons in College Station before deciding to transfer. After sitting out a year, he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

This comes after Houston did the following:

And UH should return Manning Award finalist quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. for 2016, meaning the QB position could now be set for the next three years. And the Cougars could land a top-25 recruiting class this year, virtually unheard-of at the non-power level.

Allen was the top-rated quarterback in the 2014 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite, and chose the Aggies over UCLA, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and Ohio State. UCLA wasn’t an option as a transfer destination, as all SEC schools and teams on Texas A&M’s schedule through 2019 were restricted.

Allen split time with Kyler Murray in 2015 for Texas A&M. In 10 games, Allen went 160-283 (56.5 percent) for 2,210 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while also rushing for another two touchdowns. He has a big, strong arm, and can most likely be counted on to complete well above that 56.5 percent number at his new home.

Murray took over as the starter, but has since himself transferred to Oklahoma.

The Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte first broke the news that Allen would be a Cougar on Tuesday morning.
