This game is particularly interesting, due to the fact that it is a revenge game of sorts for Ole Miss. Last season, then-No. 13 Ole Miss went to Memphis and lost to the Tigers 37-24. Despite this game being notable due to the upset result, these two programs have been playing quite consistently since the first meeting back in 1921.

Ole Miss holds a 48-11-2 lead in the series and had won six straight before last year’s loss. Ole Miss is coming off a 48-14 win over Georgia last week, but they are 2-2 on the year with losses to both Alabama and Florida State from the season opener in Orlando, Fla. Memphis is undefeated, with wins against Southeast Missouri State, Kansas and Bowling Green on the year. Although Memphis’ head coach, Justin Fuente, is now the head coach at Virginia Tech, Memphis fans would love nothing more than to beat a ranked Rebels team twice in a row.

Three big things to know
1. Memphis’ new head coach Mike Norvell is already succeeding: The former Arizona State offensive coordinator became the only first-year head coach in Memphis football history to win his first three games. Last week, the Tigers beat Bowling Green 77-3. In the country, he is also one of just three first-year head coaches at the FBS level still undefeated record.
2. These two teams first met in the 1920’s: Known as the Mid-South rivalry, the two programs began playing each other fairly regularly starting in the 1950s, but the first meeting was in 1921. Before the 50s, they played seven times in about a 30-year span. Memphis managed to find success in consecutive meetings just a total of three times — they won three straight in 1973-76, and back-to-back victories in 1992-93, as well as 2003-04.
3. Ole Miss performs well on Homecoming: The Rebels will welcome the Tigers the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for homecoming weekend. The Rebels are 71-15-2 on homecoming weekends, and have gone 17-for-19 in the last 19 Homecomings. In 2015, they beat 52-3 victory over New Mexico State
