Clemson vs. Florida State 2016 odds: Tigers favored to all but clinch division

The Clemson Tigers will try to remain undefeated on the season by picking up a rare road win over the Florida State Seminoles as small betting favorites for Saturday.

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

The Clemson Tigers are 1-9 straight up and 4-6 against the spread in their last 10 road games against the Florida State Seminoles. The Tigers can virtually lock up the ACC Atlantic division with a road win over the Seminoles this Saturday night. With a win, CU would need only two wins against Syracuse, Pitt, or Wake Forest to take the division.

Clemson is a 4.5-point road favorite at Doak Campbell Stadium at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last 11 games against Florida State overall, Clemson is 8-3 ATS.

The Tigers survived a serious scare against North Carolina State in their final game heading into last week’s bye week. Going off as a 20-point favorite at home, the game was tied 17-17 with two seconds left and the Wolfpack lining up for a game-winning 33-yard field goal attempt. NC State missed the kick, giving Clemson the chance to win the game in overtime and enter the final stretch of its season with a 7-0 SU and 4-3 ATS record.

Over the team’s last eight games on the road, Clemson is 8-0 SU and 4-4 ATS, per the OddsShark College Football Database. Clemson was favored in all eight of those road games.

Betting Line / Total: Clemson -4.5 / 60.5 Points

Trend: Florida State is 0-5 ATS in its last five games after a win.

Trend: Clemson is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games against teams with winning records.

Through the first five games of the regular season, Florida State’s offense was averaging 41.4 points per game, but a shaky defense giving up 35.4 points per game cost the Seminoles in losses to Louisville and North Carolina.

In the Seminoles’ last two games, the offense has averaged only 18.5 points per game, but the defense has shored up in allowing only 12.5 points per game. Florida State has the talent to be better than its 5-2 SU and 3-4 ATS record, but it needs to find a way to get in sync in all three facets of the game at the same time.

Saturday night’s total is set at 60.5 points. The UNDER is 3-0 in Florida State’s last three games.

With a win on Saturday, Clemson would own head-to-head tiebreakers on both Louisville and Florida State, and remain undefeated in conference play. Florida State is likely out of the playoff picture at this point with two conference losses, but wins over Clemson and Florida down the stretch could build plenty of momentum for next season.
