Tennessee vs. Texas A&M 2016 odds: Aggies favored to break the Vols’ streak

The Tennessee Volunteers and Texas A&M Aggies will both be trying to improve to 6-0 on Saturday when they meet at College Station.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Volunteers are 11-0 straight up and 6-5 against the spread in their last 11 games overall. The Volunteers will look to extend that win streak on the road this Saturday visiting the Texas A&M Aggies.

Tennessee is a 7-point underdog at Kyle Field at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Over the course of the Volunteers’ current 11-game win streak, the team had been favored in every game.

Through the first five games of the 2016 season, Tennessee has already trailed by double-digits four times. Remarkably, the Volunteers are 4-0 SU and 2-2 ATS in those four games.

Tennessee saved its most dramatic finish of the season thus far for last week, losing a 4-point lead on a 47-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds to go, only to respond with a 43-yard touchdown pass of its own on the last play of the game. This group clearly knows how to win from behind, but conventional wisdom suggests the luck will eventually run out.

The Volunteers are just 2-9 straight up in their last 11 games as a betting underdog, but have gone 4-1 ATS in their last five per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Texas A&M -7 / 57.5 Points

Trend: Texas A&M is 4-10 ATS in its last 14 games at home.

Trend: Tennessee is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games against teams with winning records.

With last Saturday’s 24-13 road win over the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Aggies failed to cover the spread as 19.5-point road favorites, bringing their record on the season to 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS.

This is the third straight season that Texas A&M has opened up its season with a 5-0 SU record; the last two ended with a 3-5 SU and 1-7 ATS run last year and a 3-5 SU and 2-6 ATS run in 2014. The Aggies will try to turn the tide by picking up that elusive sixth straight win this Saturday.

Saturday’s total is set at 57.5 points. The UNDER is 5-1 in Texas A&M’s last six games against SEC opponents.

The winner of this game will be in the best position to challenge Alabama for the top spot in the SEC in the second half. This matchup should serve as a good barometer for how good Tennessee and Texas A&M are before each takes on Alabama in the next game on its schedule.
