Tennessee vs. Texas A&M 2016: Start time, live stream, TV schedule and 3 things to know

Tennessee looks to beat an undefeated Texas A&M team after an emotional victory.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

We’ve got ourselves a treat with this one, folks. No. 9 Tennessee travels to College Station on Saturday to take on the No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies. Both teams are undefeated, and both teams are riding high on momentum, especially Tennessee, who beat Georgia last week on a last-second, miraculous Hail Mary.

While this game isn’t necessarily a must-win, since it’s a cross-divisional matchup, it will certainly be critical for any potential bowl or College Football Playoff implications that may lie ahead for these teams. Texas A&M has been quite effective on offense, highlighted by its successful run game paired with a solid defense under coordinator John Chavis.

This is probably the most talented offense Tennessee has faced at this point, but don’t count the Vols out at any point, even if they get buried by an Aggie lead early.

Three big things to know

1. Texas A&M is dangerous on the ground: This looks to be one of the most difficult rushing attacks Tennessee’s defense has faced all season. The Aggies have improved their effectiveness on the ground a lot since the 2015 season. One of the biggest improvements has been in S&P+‘s Rushing IsoPPP, used to measure rushing explosiveness. Currently, the Aggies rank 12th in that category after ranking 100th in 2015.

2. Tennessee can come from behind and win: It’s kind of becoming Tennessee’s thing this year. They have managed to fall behind, yet come back and win, in virtually every game they’ve had this season Previously this season, the Vols have faced early two-score deficits against Appalachian State, Virginia Tech, Florida, and now Georgia. The one against Florida was as high as 21 points, and they came back to win 38-28.

3.Texas A&M has a history of late-season collapses: It’s a common trend, seemingly year after year -- starting off hot then collapsing in the back end of the season. However, with a win on Saturday over the Vols, Texas A&M will be undefeated -- 4-0 -- in SEC play for the first time in 12 years. The last time the Aggies made it through conference play unblemished with consecutive wins was back in 2004.
