Mississippi State vs. Alabama odds: After upset win vs. A&M, MSU is a massive underdog

The Tide can remain undefeated on the season with a home win over the Bulldogs, who just knocked off Texas A&M, as large betting favorites on Saturday afternoon.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama Crimson Tide are 8-0 straight up and 5-3 against the spread in their last eight games against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide can extend that win streak to nine games with a win at home over the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Alabama is a 29-point home favorite in Tuscaloosa at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last six games at home, the Crimson Tide are 5-1 against the spread.

The Crimson Tide can win games in various ways, and that was on display last Saturday against the LSU Tigers. The same Alabama team that won in a 48-43 shootout on the road against Ole Miss back in September dug into the trenches and gutted out a 10-0 road win over the Tigers last week.

The win brought Alabama’s record to 9-0 SU and 7-2 ATS on the season including a current stretch of 4-0 ATS, and it was the sixth game of the season in which the Crimson Tide held their opponent to 10 points or fewer.

Since losing to Ole Miss last season, Alabama is 14-0 SU and 9-5 ATS in its last 14 games against conference opponents per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Alabama -29 / 55 Points

Trend: Alabama is 5-1 ATS in its last six games at home.

Trend: Mississippi State is 1-5 SU in its last six games after a win.

With just three games remaining in the season, Mississippi State isn’t bowl eligible yet with a 4-5 SU and ATS record. The defense is allowing 29.8 points per game this season after allowing just 22.8 points per game in 2015.

But despite the team’s struggles this year, the Bulldogs proved they still had some fight in them last Saturday with a 35-28 upset win over the Texas A&M Aggies as a 10-point favorite at home. The Bulldogs are 1-5 SU in their last six games after a win.

Saturday’s total is set at 55 points. The UNDER is 8-1 in the last nine games between Alabama and Mississippi State.

Alabama wraps up its regular season with three straight home games, following up this Saturday’s contest with games against Chattanooga and Auburn. A letdown performance after last week’s grueling game against LSU could be possible, but Mississippi State’s shaky defense isn’t likely to keep this Alabama offense in check like the Tigers did.
